Breaking News! A Dream Come True...
Hi, Guys and Gals!
Publishing a book is a marathon, not a sprint! Or so we writers are told regularly. With that in mind, patience is not only a virtue, but a necessity. But with the one-year anniversary of Veronica’s Grave coming up on May 9th, it’s time to look back and take stock.
One of the first lessons learned is that publishing is not for the faint of heart, for no matter how fine the manuscript may be, to put a finished copy into a reader’s hand requires a pool of talent and an enormously well-coordinated effort.
For that, I’m immensely grateful to my publisher, Brooke Warner, who early on believed in the story, to all at She Writes Press who managed the production of Veronica’s Grave, to my superb editor Elizabeth Kracht who held firm to her conviction that less is more, to my fabulous PR team at JKS Communications in Nashville, whose enthusiasm and encouragement steadied me every step of the way, to Paul Baxter, my computer genius, who in two years has never failed to solve a technical problem, to Beth Beauchamp of Beauchamp/Artist Services whose creativity in managing my website never ceases to amaze me, and to my husband who has long been the wind in my sails. It has been a most remarkable learning experience, an arduous undertaking, and an unforgettable journey. And it’s just begun!
For those of you who haven’t heard, Harper-Collins Canada has purchased the foreign rights to Veronica's Grave and will be bringing it out in June 2017 under a new title, Missing Mother, and with a new cover.
I adore the cover! The background image is of New York City, and the child clutching her 'blankie' is an inspired summation of my years living in the Bronx. What's more, the original cover photo of Veronica's Grave has been moved to the back cover. If that wasn’t enough to keep me scudding along on Cloud 9, news arrived a few days ago that the initial run at Harper Collins Canada will be 20,000 copies. Jiminy Cricket!
Yes, it's a dream come true. My advice to all those would be memoir writers out there? Keep dreaming!
Happy Anniversary Veronica's Grave! Welcome to the world Missing Mother!
And remember, sharing is caring. Merci beaucoup mes amis.
